Popular boutique, SomethinsGottaGive, fêtes Hudson Valley arts culture

A popular Chatham, N.Y. boutique, SomethinsGottaGive, that often hosts cocktail parties for artists welcomed us to one of their late September gatherings.

We enjoyed hearing about guests’ creative inspirations and appreciated their curiosity about the development of our campus in Catskill.

Events like theirs have helped make SomethinsGottaGive, which James Knight opened in 2015, a destination for design aficionados on the hunt for beautiful, locally crafted homewares.

Each Friday in September, Knight hosts a reception highlighting an artist whose work he sells. The evenings draw together people and creators for food and drink and the exchange ideas.

It’s the very arts scene that he says persuaded him to relocate from New York City.

“The area attracts creative people who want to get away to create,” he said.

“There are so many different cultural things going on.

“That’s what’s great about discovering The Catskills, it all ties in, it’s all arts related.

SomethinsGottaGive is known for its inviting showcase of furniture, art and decoratives that Knight hand-picks and displays beautifully, drawing on his years of experience as the visual mechandising director at Gucci.

He is especially passionate about curating wares by local artisans.

“Chatham is very inviting and welcoming. Most people are happy to have a shop that represents local artisans. They are very encouraging. It makes you want to do more.”
