FINALLY! We’re opening our doors this weekend and we invite you to join us!

This Sat., Sept. 1, Hollywood actor, Alan Cumming, will host our Opening Gala, welcoming more than 400 guests to LUMBERYARD, the Hudson Valley’s newest film and performing arts center.

Cumming is a Tony Award winning artist known as much for his memorable Broadway performances in shows like “Cabaret” as for his TV and film roles, such as his Emmy-award winning performance in “The Good Wife.”

He joins our excitement at opening LUMBERYARD’s new Catskill, N.Y. facility. He even showcased his anticipation on Instagram, here.

The Opening Gala will feature an introduction by Alan Cumming, followed performance by acclaimed tap dancer, Savion Glover, and celebrated jazz drummer, Marcus Gilmore.

The combined talents of Glover, whom the New Yorker describes as “the greatest virtuoso of our time, perhaps of all time” and Gilmore, an heir to jazz royalty as grandson to iconic drummer Roy Haynes, are sure to wow the audience.

Although the show is sold out, LUMBERYARD wanted to ensure everyone could join the festivities so we’ll be livestreaming the event on our Facebook page, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 1.

About LUMBERYARD’S Opening Gala

Guests at this sold out event will be the first to set foot in LUMBERYARD’s newly renovated Water Street facility.

The transformation of the main building – from a former lumberyard into a world class soundstage and 7,000-square-foot flexible theatre space – will be complete.

“We’re thrilled that LUMBERYARD’s official opening will highlight the work of three artists who have each given so much to the world of performances,” LUMBERYARD Executive and Artistic Director, Adrienne Willis, says.

“LUMBERYARD looks forward to sharing talents like theirs with you through each subsequent season.

“Our Gala Opening is also an opportunity for us to thank those who have supported LUMBERYARD – especially local residents who have joined us in our commitment to make Hudson Valley a destination world class performance.”

Tickets were recently released to the previously sold out second performance, Sept. 2, by Glover and Gilmore. They’re available here.

LUMBERARD’s successful opening season

Ahead of the Opening Gala, LUMBERYARD partnered with two Hudson Valley performing arts venues, Helsinki Hudson and Hudson Hall, to showcase its opening season.

We’re encouraged that each The Under Construction Festival’s seven shows sold out, signalling a keen appetite among Hudson Valley residents to attend performances.

While Glover and Gilmore’s Sept.1-2 performances close LUMBERYARD’s summer festival, they’re the first of an exciting fall season lineup that will include a work in development new work by Lucinda Childs, featuring Wendy Whelan.

As LUMBERYARD Artistic and Executive Director, Adrienne Willis, recently told The New York Times, as Hudson Valley’s newest film and performing arts center, this fall LUMBERYARD will also be presenting film screenings and live concerts.

About LUMBERYARD

LUMBERYARD is the Hudson Valley’s newest film and performing arts center

Within six years, we’ve become a leading force in U.S. contemporary performance, launching bold programs that ensure its continued vitality.

Our new Catskill, N.Y. facility replicates the country’s most prominent stages, making it the pre-eminent venue for out-of-town premieres.

Performers selected for LUMBERYARD’s residencies will be afforded time and space to fine-tune their works before they premiere.

In addition to presenting our first season, LUMBERYARD is the region’s newest home for film and the performing arts.

Adjoining the theatre are lodgings where performance artists stay there during their residencies. The space is designed to be equally comfortable lodging for film and TV crews, wedding guests and corporate retreat attendees – with 13 rooms and suites that can accommodate up to 25 overnight guests.

We’ve begun accepting bookings from the motion picture industry for use of our space, including a purpose-built sound stage, for filming and post production.
