Growing craft brewery industry attracting female leadership

Cave Mountain Brewing Co. joins a handful of Hudson Valley breweries now being run by women.

Lisa Alinder, who recently took over the business from her brother, will be sharing Cave Mountain’s latest flavours with guests at our End of Summer Shindig.

We hope you’ll join us today to celebrate.

While Lisa is surprised to be one of only three female brewery owners in the state, she says the industry’s growth should make it appealing for anyone with an appetite to run their own business.

“The craft brew industry is continuing to grow year after year. Every town needs a good brewery,” she says.

Hudson Valley’s welcoming charm

Lisa, who grew up in Westchester, returned to the Hudson Valley after 20 years in Arizona to join the bustling Windham-based brew pub her brother founded.

“I felt at home here the first day, even though I didn’t know a soul — aside from my brother.

“People take you under their wing immediately.”

Catskill Beverage Trail starts here

Business has been growing steadily owing in part to the collaborations and social events Cave Mountain Brewing Co. participates in, Lisa says.

Together with other local craft breweries, she is developing the Catskill Beverage Trail, offering tourists a route through the Valley dotted with stops at wineries, distilleries and cider houses.

“We’re in the midst of a whole campaign to get people up from the city,”she says.

Lisa and other local entrepreneurs hope the trail will help others see that richness of the Valley’s culture.

“We’re definitely seeing more people up on the mountain. It’s a four season destination, but there’s still lots to do outside of golf and skiing.

“It’s where adventure meets culture.”
