In honor of Earth Day, we’re reflecting on how that commitment informs the renovation of our Catskill, N.Y. facility.
We’re excited to soon welcome you here. In the meantime, we hope you’ll be encouraged by some details of our construction.
LUMBERYARD: Sustainability by design
- Our design team is re-using as much of the existing Water St. structure as possible.
- To conserve energy, we’re upgrading the original structure for full insulation.
- All lighting will be LED low energy and long-life lamps.
- A building management system will optimize the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system.
Better together
We’re learning every day about sustainability programs already in place among Hudson Valley businesses and organizations.
Check out these long-running programs – many of which we’ll be taking advantage of when we’re up and running.
Local Catskill, N.Y. inspiration
Close to home, we’re also taking inspiration for our neighbours including Cultivate Catskill, a volunteer group dedicated to making Catskill, N.Y. greener.
Many of the Village’s public spaces, including those along Main Street, owe their vibrance to Cultivate Catskill’s efforts planting public areas, installing vibrant hanging baskets and filling containers with colorful flowers.
Some of their past projects include:
- Impressive plantings and an elegant mini plaza along the Howard Street Slide.
- A revamp of Leggio Park, adding more shrubs, annuals, and a new urn at its center.
- A section of raised vegetable beds that are maintained by children from the Community Center. Fifty trees planted on Main Street, so far.
To celebrate Earth Day, Cultivate Catskill hosted a roadside clean up last Saturday, inviting local residents to collect garbage that had accumulated over winter.
