Behind the scenes: Local students join LUMBERYARD team

Our opening season performances are coming to life with the help of many Hudson Valley-based employees, including our new summer hires – LUMBERYARD’s Junior Crew.

Through Aug. 19, you’ll see them often in Catskill, N.Y. and in Hudson.

Last week, they were based at 361 Main St., a space generously donated by property owner Rob Kalin, selling hand-painted bottles to test methods for generating income from their own creative work.

It’s a valuable career skill in any industry – one that many artists presented by LUMBERYARD will have to fine-tuned in New York’s competitive arts scene.

About LUMBERYARD’s Junior Crew

In partnership with Columbia-Greene Workforce NY, each member of LUMBERYARD’s Junior Crew is earning a wage during their summer break.

Their work will include:

  1. Handing out programs and ushering you to your seats at upcoming performances.
  2. Working behind the scenes with LUMBERYARD’s production director, Jason Wells, learning the creative and technical skills required to stage a world class performance.
  3. Rehearsing a choreographed piece which they first performed last Friday at Hop-o-Nose and the following day at the Catskill Farmer’s Market.

Program Consultant, Carla Perlo, and Junior Crew Manager, Jamal Abrams, are an integral part of the Crew’s success, including the addition next week of two more Crew members.

More economic growth in Hudson Valley

As LUMBERYARD grows together with Catskill, N.Y. and Greene County, we’re working closely with a range of talented Hudson Valley residents.

LUMBERYARD’s Junior crew is one of several initiatives we’re leading in order to bring to Catskill, N.Y.:

  • Up to 150 full-time jobs.
  • More than $1 million in local spending during the summer season alone.
  • Up to 10,000 new visitors, annually.

We anticipate a total economic impact of up to $13 million – a significant number in any industry.
